Taking care with your sign maker

Cat & Genny

Many signs are fitted into the ground where they can be stood to display information. This applies to post and panel signs, totem signs, parking signs and many other signs.

When we dig into the ground we need to take care that there are no underground cables which, if damaged, can cause disruption or even a serious injury.  Signs Now equips all its fitting crews with cable detection and avoidance equipment – commonly called a Cat and Genny. Our fitting crews are trained in the use of this equipment and the equipment is regularly inspected and tested.

If you are buying a sign which needs to be fitted into the ground you need to ensure that your chosen sign company carries out a risk assessment, prepares a safe method of working statement and engages trained installers using the proper equipment. If not, you may find yourself partly liable.
